Black Obsidian
Obsidian begins as fire. It is a natural glass, created when molten lava meets the air and cools too quickly to form a crystal — a stone that carries the memory of the eruption in its deep black gloss. Men have trusted it for longer than almost any other material: Stone Age hunters worked its sharp fragments into weapon tips, and the ancient Aztecs held it sacred, naming it the “God’s Stone” and shaping from it the ritual dagger they used in offerings to their gods.
That long history is why obsidian sits, alongside black onyx and black tourmaline, among the traditional protective stones. Its darkness is said to work like armour — surrounding the wearer with an energy that absorbs negativity before it lands, and helping to dismantle the fear-based patterns of thought that keep a man circling a decision instead of making it. Worn at the chest, it is a stone for facing things squarely.
Hematite
Where obsidian is depth, hematite is edge. Its surface carries a dark, mirror-like shine closer to freshly poured chrome than to anything you would expect from a stone — one of the few gems with a genuinely metallic lustre. Cool to the touch, its dark grey-to-black gleam is believed to give the wearer a sense of strength and stability, and it has long been associated with courage and balance.
Together the two stones set the character of this men’s necklace: volcanic glass for protection and resolve, metallic hematite for steadiness under pressure. It suits the man who prefers his jewellery quiet but meaningful — worn daily, under a shirt or over one, as a private reminder of his own resilience. Thanks to the seamless design there is no clasp to fumble: the necklace simply slips on over the head and stays put through whatever the day brings.
