Almandine Garnet – Meaning
As a protective stone, garnet is said to strengthen vitality and our basic survival instincts. It’s also said to support fertility and libido. In the Middle Ages, garnet was worn as a protective talisman against ill will and misfortune. On a mental level, almandine is said to clear away negativity and ease melancholy and depression, while also bringing courage and hope in critical moments.
To protect themselves and strengthen their courage, medieval crusaders wore garnet on their journeys to the Holy Land — and today, business people wear it for similar reasons during important negotiations. Interestingly, some Asian and Indian tribes once used garnet as arrowheads: its dark red colour made shattered fragments harder to find and remove from the body. In ancient Egypt, garnet was associated with the goddess of war, Sekhmet, often depicted with a lion’s head and a woman’s body.
As a stone of physical love, garnet is said to help partners understand each other’s needs and desires. It’s also believed to create a rare connection between the Root and Crown chakras, helping bring mental energy into the physical body.
