Ruby – Meaning
Few stones feel as alive as ruby. Its deep, fiery red — one of the most treasured colours in the gem world — has been linked to the heart, and to passion, for as long as it has been worn.
Ruby’s energy is said to be warm and vivid: kindling desire and romantic passion, deepening love between partners, and giving the wearer the confidence to feel fully, magnetically alive. Like garnet, it is a classic stone of love — a meaningful gift for an anniversary or any milestone worth celebrating — and it is believed to protect the heart while encouraging it to stay open. On a quieter level it is also linked to vitality and courage, easing fear and worry, sharpening the mind, and sparking creativity, opening doors within us we might not otherwise dare to enter.
In Hindu tradition, ruby’s red light was said to come from an inner flame that could never be put out; for Buddhists it counted among the most precious offerings to honour the Buddha. Beyond its lore, ruby has long been tied to prosperity and good fortune — a warm, radiant companion said to draw abundance towards anyone bold enough to wear it.
