African jade – meaning
African jade is the trade name for the mineral called Verdite, a metaformed stone composed from fuchsite and muscovite, found in various shades of green in South Africa and Zimbabwe. However, unlike real jade, it is significantly softer, which is why it has been used by South African natives for hundreds of years as a decorative stone for the production of amulets and engravings.
This mineral is also traditionally used in the jewelery as a gift that has to strengthen long-distance relationships (whether personal, business or political).
An indigenous tribe in Zimbabwe, called the Shona, believes in the verdit’s ability to promote fertility. They also believes that it will give its wearer reliability, strength and wisdom. Today, this mineral is valued especially among alternative healers for its ability to stimulate vital energy in the human body and mind.
