Smoky Quartz – Meaning

Smoky quartz is a natural form of quartz found in shades of smoky grey and brown; a very dark, nearly opaque variety is called morion. It’s worn as an amulet believed to strengthen basic survival instincts, and to help you achieve personal and business goals and put new ideas into action. It’s said to support rational, practical thinking, and to improve mental clarity, concentration, and determination.

Because its colour forms naturally through radiation, smoky quartz has traditionally been seen as a protective, cleansing stone — guarding against harmful radiation and electromagnetic smog.

Smoky quartz was a sacred stone for Celtic druids, who drew on the earth-based energy of pagan gods in their rituals, and for Native American shamans, who used it as a protective amulet against evil spirits.
