Peridot – meaning

Peridot, a beautiful and rare gemstone in olive green shade. Peridot is, like diamond, formed in the earth’s melted core at high temperatures and pressures. Some peridots have extraterrestrial origin, they can be found in meteorites or comets, and even traces of Peridot have been found on the moon.

Peridot was considered by many civilizations to be a symbol of spring and sun, and was worn to attract good luck and success. This stone was especially appreciated by the Egyptian pharaohs, as a “crystal of the sun”, due to its green-gold color. The ancient Romans called it the “evening emerald” because, according to them, Peridot´s color did not darken at night, but was still beautifully visible in the glow of the burning fire.

As a healing stone is often used by Reiki healers for its ability to transfer or store healing energy. At the mental level, Peridot sharpens the mind and opens it to new levels of consciousness. This mineral has also traditionally been used as a protective stone against nightmares and against the “invisible horrors of night”.
