Topacio – Significado
Thanks to its wide range of colours and impressive hardness, topaz is one of the most popular gemstones, often appearing in jewellery alongside sapphire, ruby, or emerald. The name likely comes from the Sanskrit word “tapaz,” meaning “fire.” In India, topaz was traditionally believed to would bring a long life, beauty, and intelligence. The ancient Greeks wore it as an amulet to boost physical and mental strength. In medieval Europe, topaz was used as protection against black magic, believed to enhance wisdom and mental health and dispel anger — and, at the time, even to help protect against tuberculosis by strengthening the body’s respiratory system.
