Emerald – Meaning

Emerald belongs to the beryl family, alongside blue aquamarine and peach-coloured morganite, and together with ruby and sapphire it completes the “Great Trio” of precious stones — among the rarest and most treasured coloured gems on Earth. Its name comes from the ancient Greek “smaragdus,” simply meaning green.

Few stones carry such a long royal story. The Egyptians saw emerald as a symbol of eternal life and a gift from Thoth, the god of wisdom, and mined it in the deserts near the Red Sea long before Cleopatra made it her signature stone.
