Amethyst – Meaning
This purple crystallized quartz was a highly valued gemstone until large deposits were discovered in Latin America. Purple has always been considered a symbol of royal status, so amethyst became part of many coronation jewels. Looking back through history, we find that ancient Egyptians carried amethyst into battle to boost their courage, while in the Middle Ages, kings and bishops wore it as a symbol of majesty.
Amethyst is a symbol of many positive qualities, such as prosperity, courage, mental purity, and friendship. Leonardo da Vinci, for example, believed this stone helps control negative thoughts, strengthens intelligence, speeds up thinking, and brings a positive outcome to business negotiations. The Hebrew word for amethyst, “aklamah,” is the same word as “dream” — reflecting this stone’s power to inspire vivid dreams and visions.
