Chrysoprase – meaning

Chrysoprase is a vibrant green healing stone known for its uplifting energy and calming effects. It is believed to bring joy, suppress anxiety, and help alleviate depression, hysteria, and paranoia. Beyond its emotional benefits, chrysoprase also has powerful detoxifying properties and is said to attract good luck—especially in business. The name chrysoprase comes from the Greek words chrysos (“gold”) and prasinon (“green”). Thanks to its high nickel content, its color varies from soft mint green to deep, intense apple-green. This rare gemstone has been treasured since ancient Greece and Rome, where it was widely used in jewelry and temple decorations.

Chrysoprase is primarily found in Australia, Brazil, the Ural Mountains, and the USA. Historically, the most abundant source was the Frankenstein (Ząbkowice) mines in Upper Silesia, Poland, but today, Australia produces nearly 85% of the world’s supply. The chrysoprase mined in Queensland is considered among the finest in the world.
