Botswana Agate – Meaning

Botswana agate formed around 187 million years ago through volcanic activity involving silica-rich lava. Each layer formed as successive flows of silica-rich lava cooled, one on top of the last. The stone takes its name from the only place on Earth where it’s found: the small southern African country of Botswana.

Indigenous peoples have valued this stone since ancient times for its believed ability to hold the energy of sunlight and soothe the mind through dark times. Some traditions also hold that it can stimulate sexual energy and fertility. Today, Botswana agate is valued for helping us make important changes in our lives and encouraging us to look for solutions rather than dwell on problems.
