Russian Jade (Nephrite) – Meaning

Green nephrite (green jade) is considered a powerful healing stone, said to help release negative thoughts. Worn as a talisman, it’s believed to protect against failure and misfortune, and to support the body’s vital forces against illness. Because of its rejuvenating reputation, it’s nicknamed the “Stone of Eternal Youth.” The name “jade” comes from the Greek word “nephros,” meaning “kidney” — it was once believed to have a beneficial effect on this organ.

In Asia, jade and jadeite have long been honored as noble stones, in part because the two look so similar and share many properties. In ancient China, jade was so valued for its medicinal use that a strict law made destroying an object made from it punishable by death.
